On July 10, 2004 The Tennessean reported, "about 50 Baha'is gathered [in Nashville, Tenn.] with one purpose in mind: commemorating a martyr of their faith. The Martyrdom of the Bab is an annual holy day celebrated worldwide at noon... he congregation, seeking relief from the heat in a shady grove of trees, reflected more diversity than the average Nashville church. They are Persian, African-American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, Australian and Caucasian, said Joyce Jackson, secretary of the Baha'i spiritual assembly in Nashville. As conversations died and heads bowed, some members read from Baha'i holy writings. The ceremony continued with songs, prayers and readings about the martyr of the Bab."
