On June 22, 2005 the Portland Press Herald reported that there will be a conference this week at Saint Joseph's College where religious leaders and scholars will gather "to discuss barriers that separate people of faith, and to explore common ground. Issues of cooperation between religions have come under the spotlight since the Sept. 11 attacks nearly four years ago. For faiths that have been in conflict for hundreds or thousands of years, [Rabbi Daniel Polish] said, even simple discussions are difficult. They are colored by the emotions of war, power and struggles for land... 'Ecumenical dialogue is one of the most pressing needs in the United States today,' said David House, Saint Joseph's president."
