On September 15, 2004 Times Union reported, "a handful of speakers criticized the Shenendehowa Board of Education on Tuesday for scheduling classes during Rosh Hashana. By not offering time off for the three-day Jewish holiday, which begins today at sundown, the board, Larry Brodsky of Rexford said, had separated the children of the district by religion... Members of the Board of Education apologized and promised to review next year's school calender more closely. Students in Schenectady, Albany, Bethlehem and Guilderland, among others, have Thursday off this year."
