Members of Greater Cleveland's Sikh community convened a special session at the City Club Wednesday, to dispel misunderstandings about their 500-year-old Indian religion and culture.

The local Sikhs, who number about 800 families, say they continue to be the subject of misunderstanding and even discrimination, nearly nine years after September 11, 2001.

"Everything changed on September 11th," Jasjit Singh told an audience at the City Club. Singh is Associate Executive Director of SALDEF, the Sikh American Legal Defense & Education Fund, based in Washington, D.C.

"Televisions across the country were flashing images of Osama Bin Laden," Singh continued, "a man with a turban and a beard, his followers brown-skinned, many of whom wear beards."
