On December 1, 2001 The Seattle Times reported that "for many Christians, Advent... is a time to step back from the commercialism of the modern holiday season and reflect on what Christmas is actually about: not a rise of capitalism and mass-marketing, but rather the birth of Christ... The modern word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which means 'coming.' But what Advent marks is actually two comings, one thought to have taken place in the past and one hoped for in the future."
