Islamic Society of North America has picked a lawyer and educator from Chicago as its new secretary-general.
Safaa Zarzour (SAF'-uh ZAR'-zur) will be the top executive of the Plainfield-based organization, which is the country's largest Muslim group.
Zarzour has been chairman of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Chicago and the Council of Islamic Schools in North America, along with being a member of the Board of Advisors of the Bernadine Center at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
