On October 5, 2003 Kuensel Online reported that "the largest Buddhist Stupa in the Western world was inaugurated in Benalmádena on the Spanish south coast near Malaga on the morning of October 4. The monument, which has been erected on a panoramic platform overlooking the Costa del Sol, is 33 metres tall and has a base width of 25 metres. It has a meditation room inside. It represents the best known Buddhist symbol for harmony, prosperity and peace...More than 2,500 visitors from 38 countries took part in the inauguration including members of the Buddhist Diamond Way Organisation from Australia, Israel, Poland, Russia and Germany."
