On November 18, 2005 the Press Trust of India reported, "President George W. Bush has greeted Sikhs across the world on the 536th birth anniversary of their faith's founder Guru Nanak... 'I send greetings to those gathered to celebrate the 536th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak,' a Sikh Council on Education and Religion statement quoted Bush as saying in his message. President Bush also praised American Sikhs for their accomplishments and contributions to the success of the United States. 'The values of Sikhism are the values of America: equality, family, humility, and service. Sikhs across our country have embraced these ideals and contributed to the success and vitality of our nation,' he said. Bush described the current religious celebrations as an opportunity for Sikhs in America and around the world to reflect on the wisdom and guidance of Guru Nanak. 'I appreciate Sikhs everywhere for your commitment to faith and values. As you commemorate the life and teachings of Guru Nanak, you may help promote mutual understanding and religious tolerance, building a better future for all,' he added."
