On March 30, 2006 The Star reported, "Historical landmarks, life-size biblical murals and a temple styled from the first century B.C. Kalinga dynasty — and all right here in the South Suburbs. They were among the highlights of 'Steeples, Temples, Domes and Shrines,' a recent bus tour of religious sites that served as the 19th annual South Suburban Cultural History Conference sponsored by the South Suburban Heritage Association... The day-long adventure [which drew 42 people and spanned nearly a dozen communities] began at First Christian Church in Chicago Heights, a Disciples of Christ congregation founded in 1903 that grew out of the Western frontier. Other visits were the American Islamic Association in Frankfort, Marley Community Church in Mokena, Annunciation of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church in Homer Glen, Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in Lamont, Twin Towers Chapel and meeting facility in Orland Park, and Payne Chapel African Methodist Episcopal in Chicago Heights. The tour was narrated by the Rev. Larry McClellan, a historian, former Governors State University history professor and current pastor of First Christian Church of Chicago Heights."
