On December 1, 2004 Walker County Messenger reported, "the Buddhist Temple in Chickamauga is raising money by hosting a daylong celebration on Saturday, Dec. 4. Buddhists, looking for a central location, established the temple in May 2004. Buddhists travel from Atlanta, Murfreesboro and Nashville, Tenn., to worship at the temple. Buddhist monks anticipate 275 practicing Buddhists from Georgia and Tennessee will dress up and dance to raise money for the temple at the event. Buddhists do not tithe, but raise money to pay bills."
