On January 5, 2004 the North County Times published an article on the Wat Buddhamonthol Buddhist temple, "one of a number of temples that have sprung up to serve the growing Thai population in Southern California ---- including sites in Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Escondido and Valley Center. Today, the small wat in Wildomar serves a congregation of about 200 residents, mostly Asian-Americans from Thailand, Laos and Cambodia... The Wildomar temple is affiliated with Wat Thai of Los Angeles in North Hollywood. With a congregation of about 40,000 people, it is the largest Thai temple in the United States. Monks at the Wildomar and other Thai temples practice Theravada Buddhism, which is popular in Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka."
