On August 10, 2004 The Miami Herald reported, "The American Buddhist center in Weston introduces beginners to a bit of history, along with the potential for true awakening... Every Tuesday at 7 p.m., Weston resonates with the chants of Buddhists filling their minds with the wisdom of the Lotus Sutra. The Introduction to Buddhism class is taught by laid-back instructors at the Soka Gakkai International-USA Florida Nature and Culture Center, an American Buddhist organization... The SGI-USA center has nearly 2,000 members and draws visitors from 180 nations and territories where Nichiren Buddhism is practiced. The center at 20000 SW 36th St. in Weston hosts special traveling exhibits and cultural events periodically for the public."
