On February 1, 2004 the Asbury Press reported that "leaders of the New Jersey Buddhist Cultural Center shared the message of the Chinese New Year during a celebration yesterday at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters. Members of the center sang and played traditional Chinese instruments and games to help create a bond between different communities, said Julie 'Hing Ling' Lee, president of the New Jersey chapter of the BLIA, Buddha's Light International Association. The organization promotes Humanistic Buddhism, which calls for harmony, respect and compassion. 'We want to serve as a bridge between the Eastern and Western culture,' Lee said."
