On September 27, 2003 Tulare Advance Register reported that Ven. Ashin Sandamanaw a 30-year-old Buddhist monk from Myanmar, the country known as Burma until 1989, uses vivid watercolors to paint Burmese landscapes, fishermen and rice farmers from his home in California. Yet today he also often paints Asian settings with American landscapes. Sandamanaw is eager to bridge the cultures of Asia and America in his art, and is in no hurry to leave America because it "has respect for different cultures and expressions."
