On February 28, 2006 The Enterprise reported, "A spotlight will be shined tonight on youth violence prevention and continued efforts to keep Legion Parkway safe. The Brockton Interfaith Community and Messiah Baptist Church congregation have scheduled a meeting tonight with Police Chief William Conlon... While it is mostly directed at members of the congregation, the public is invited to attend, said Wes Lathrop, executive director of Brockton Interfaith Community... Lathrop said Brockton Interfaith Community members are seeking two things from Conlon: [Firstly,] a plan to bring together detectives, the drug and gang units, and community policing officers for the development of a strategy to lower crime rates, specifically on Legion Parkway. [Secondly,] Members of BIC also want a seat at the table with city leaders, including the mayor's office, police and the district attorney's office to develop a proposal for the Charles E. Shannon Jr. Community Safety Initiative, which could bring up to $500,000 into Brockton for gang and teen violence prevention programs... Lathrop said BIC, which represents 18 religious institutions and an immigrant advocacy group, would seek to have Conlon make a commitment to review the issues and report back to the organization within the next 60 days."
