On February 14, 2003 The New York Times reported that "today, thanks to a program called the Golden Age of Broadway, the Crescent Heights United Methodist Church [in West Hollywood, CA] has regained its divine mission. [The Rev. John Griffin] endured six months of empty pews before turning to Laurie Franks, his music director and a veteran of 14 Broadway shows... Mr. Griffin said he was taking a direction taught in the seminary: find out what music people listen to... 'The music people love, to my mind, is sacred,' he said, 'I don't see music divided into sacred and secular. If it touches people, or lifts people that's sacred.'"
