On October 23, 2003 icCoventry reported that "Diwali is to be celebrated in the city centre this week with a simple lighting ceremony. Foleshill is the traditional centre for Coventry's Diwali celebrations, which mark the Festival of Light observed by both Hindu and Sikh religions. This year the city's Asian communities and city centre management company CV One are working together to create awareness of the festival in the city centre. In keeping with the spirit of Diwali, which is about creating light, the city centre will stage a simple candle-lighting ceremony at the Precinct fountain, on Friday 24 October."
