On September 15, 2006 CBC News reported, "The battle for control of the executive of a Sikh temple in New Westminster appears to be heating up following last week's election victory of a youth group with traditional views. The B.C. Sikh Youth group's margin of victory was just 63 ballots of the approximately 7,100 cast, and the losing moderate slate is now demanding a recount... It's the first time in the B.C. Sikh community that a temple has elected a youth group to runs its affairs."
