B.C. Sikhs should get behind an Ontario man in his fight against that province's motorcycle helmet law, a local Sikh leader said Thursday.
An Ontario judge on Thursday dismissed Baljinder Badesha's argument that he should not be required to wear a helmet because it violates the Sikh religion's requirement to wear a turban at all times.
A 1996 B.C. case similar to Badesha's went in favour of baptized Sikh Avtar Singh Dhillon, who successfully argued his religious rights trumped the Motor Vehicle Act helmet law.
