On September 26, 2005 The Daily Review reported, "During the past month, religious groups of all faiths have played a key role in coordinating relief efforts in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, commonly viewed as America's Bible Belt. As Hurricane Rita threatens to make matters worse in the Gulf States, many religious organizations are gearing up for a second round of hurricane relief. From the Islamic Society of the East Bay collecting donated goods to fund-raising dinners at Temple Beth Torah to cleansing ceremonies at Buddhist temples, the different responses to Katrina, and now Rita, offer a window into the diversity of faith in the area and methods of giving."
