On October 10, 2005 Saldef/KRON 4 reported, "Muslims and Sikhs in the Bay Area are putting aside their religious and cultural differences to work together to send relief supplies to the victims of the south Asia earthquake. More than 20,000 people have died in the massive magnitude 7.6 earthquake. Sikhs in the East Bay invited a Muslim leader to speak at their worship service on Sunday. The unusual move symbolizes the way the two groups are organizing to send food, medicine and other supplies to people killed both in Pakistan and along the Indian border.

The quake destroyed a temple sacred to the Sikhs located just inside India. Many other buildings within a 250 mile radius of the epicenter are also destroyed.

'It's a tragedy, a human tragedy,' Muslim cleric Salim Mastan told KRON 4's Tony Zarrella. 'We don't think of them as Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus or Sikhs. For us, a human being is a human being.'

'Whether in the past there were differences between India and Pakistan, we are all human beings and need to be sharing,' Surinder Singh with Fremont's Sikh Gurdwara Sahib added. 'Whatever we can do to alleviate suffering anywhere in the world, we should do it.'"
