Local residents celebrated World Religion Day through dance, music and the common idea that God has many names throughout the world.

More than 100 people listened to the chiming cymbals and a cappella singing in an interfaith event Sunday at the Dohnanyi Recital Hall at Florida State University's School of Music. Music and prayers of different faiths, including Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Native American traditions, were represented. World Religion Day was first recognized more than 20 years ago as a means to encourage tolerance of different religions. The Tallahassee event was hosted by the Baha'is of Tallahassee.

"This year's musical celebration represents a contrast and a wonderful way to learn about their faiths," said Haven Cook, Baha'i spokesperson.

Ed Stafman asked the audience to repeat several Hebrew prayers, and then they repeated the prayers to the neighbor sitting next to them. The exercise was meant to peaceably bond each person.
