On November 21, 2003 The New Indian Express ran an Indo-Asian News Service article that reported, "A Hindu priest in the temple town of Ayodhya, which has seen bitter Hindu-Muslim disputes, took the unprecedented step of hosting an Iftar on Thursday adjacent to a Hanuman temple. Gyan Das, head priest of Ayodhya's oldest temple, invited hundreds of Muslims to attend the feast laid out on the grounds adjoining the Hanuman Garhi temple for iftar, or the meal to break the daily fast during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan."
