In the living room of a Pittsfield Township home, Mihir Meghani explained to several guests why they should support the Hindu American Foundation.
"We need to have a public voice," said Meghani, a Southfield native who is president of the foundation.
By the end of his talk on a recent Saturday evening, convinced guests cut checks for the foundation and signed up as members. They're part of the growing Hindu community in metro Detroit and across the United States that is starting to get politically active through the foundation's work.
