What happens when three mothers from different faiths -Islam, Christianity and Judaism - get together to write a children's book aimed at exploring the connections between their religions?
Initially, their differences led to misunderstandings and the project came close to falling apart.
Overcoming those obstacles, the women renewed their relationships and went on to write "The Faith Club," a New York Times best-selling book that delivers a message of discovery, reconciliation and hope.
The trio will be in Boise on Feb. 21 as guests of the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho for a reception and panel-type discussion about the book and their journey.
"The Faith Club" is a memoir of spiritual reflections through the voices of Ranya Idilby, an American Muslim of Palestinian descent; Suzanne Oliver, an Episcopalian, and Priscilla Warner, a Jew. The collaboration began following the terrorists attacks that transpired on Sept. 11, 2001.
The authors tackle matters of anti-Semitism, prejudice against Muslims, and preconceptions about Christians, as well as issues that divide and connect their faiths. In the end, they offer advice on how to start a faith club.
