On November 9, 2004 Beliefnet reported, "trustees at Ashland University in Ohio have decided full-time faculty members must be Christian or Jewish, and only a Christian can be the school's president. The policy is meant to reinforce the university's historical ties to the Brethren Church, whose followers founded the private school in 1878, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Tuesday. Current faculty will be grandfathered into the policy, which could be reviewed in January."
