Top brass military officials were taken on a whirlwind tour of the town's places of worship in a bid to recruit more soldiers from ethnic minorities.

The high profile meet and greet sessions were kept under wraps until the last minute when recruitment chiefs Lt Colonel Stephen Hall and Brigadier Commander Neil Baverstock were introduced to Muslim, Sikh and Hindu worshippers in the borough.

The event, which was organised as a way of encouraging youngsters from a range of different backgrounds to consider a career in the Armed Forces, proved a resounding success with religious leaders from all faiths pledging their support for the army.

Lt Col. Stephen Hall, who oversees recruitment in the South of England, said: "Slough is seen by us as a crucial strategic hub for communications and we are eager to step up recruiting amongst the town's ethnic minorities where communities are considerable.
