As the hum of traffic on the MacArthur Causeway competed with the gurgling sound of fountains, an ancient Japanese Shinto rite was celebrated at the Ichimura Miami-Japan Garden on Sunday.

The Niiname-sai (the Great Festival of Thanksgiving) ritual was staged by the Friends of the Japanese Garden, with the aim of increasing awareness of this little-known oasis for Japanese culture on Watson Island next to Jungle Island.
