The killing of five Amish girls in Pennsylvania last year inspired Joseph Galata to create an ecumenical theatrical program based on the writings of Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran.
About 30 musicians, dancers, singers and readers will present excerpts from Gibran's "Jesus, The Son of Man" Thursday through Feb. 10 at Our Lady of Snows Parish Center.
What motivated Galata most was the suffering the gunman had experienced for so many years, he said.
"Nobody in the community seemed to hear the sound of his anguish and pain," he said. "The man who shot those Amish girls was so full of hate for God because of the death of his own child that he needed to seek revenge on kids who were happy believing in God."
Galata said he chose Gibran's piece because of the poet's universal message of harmony.
