American Muslims Plan 'National Day of Unity and Peace' for September 11

On July 24, 2002, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that "a coalition of American Islamic groups is calling on mosques across the country to observe an interfaith 'National Day of Unity and Prayer' on the anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11... The American Muslim Political Coordination Council called on the clerics who run the estimated 1,209 mosques in the United States to open their doors to Muslims and non-Muslims, and to have their members take part in special services planned for Sept. 11 at local churches and synagogues."
