On January 13, 2005 The San Diego Union-Tribune reported, "In the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami has come a faith-based response of unprecedented aid, ongoing prayers and questions of why. The outpouring includes millions of dollars from Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Jews and other faiths touched by this catastrophe and the haunting images it has produced...Around this country, prayer services are ongoing. The Dallas Morning News points out that most of the victims of the disaster follow faiths unfamiliar to many Americans: Hindus in India, Muslims in Indonesia and Buddhists in Sri Lanka. And so it was that the Dallas/Fort Worth Hindu Temple held a deepa puja, a 'prayer of light,' to commemorate victims of southern Asia's earthquake and tsunami."
