After a Fire, Relationships Build Around Understanding Sikhs

On February 16, 2004 the reported, "On Nov. 18, 2001, several Oswego County teenagers set fire to a Sikh temple in Palermo because they mistook the name of the particular Sikh denomination, Gobind Sadan, for 'Go Bin Laden.' Several of the youth involved were from the Mexico Central School District, and feeling partly responsible for their actions, Mexico board of education president Mark Lichtenstein decided to do something about it... Lichtenstein, who is also the county deputy commissioner for public works, set out to learn more about Gobind Sadan and found himself traveling to India twice - once in 2002 and again in 2003." Recently, a father and daughter were inspired by his courage to follow his footsteps to India.
