On September 20, 2001, The Spokesman-Review published the story "Spokane gets the message: No backlash." The article featured a local filmmaker's efforts to produce a public service spot against backlash. He included voices of the local community, including a Jewish businessman who said, "'We must turn our anger into an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of our community.'" The filmmaker, Don Hamilton noted: "'Everybody is on a raw edge, and a lot of right-thinking people may have their judgment clouded right now...If we can prevent somebody from getting their head cracked open in Spokane, we've succeeded.'"
