Description The Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness, Inc. was founded by Burne Stanley in 1989. The primary purpose of the Center is to provide cultural, spiritual, and social services to the Native American Peoples of Massachusetts. Secondly, the Center promotes and preserves the cultural and traditional ways of the Native Americans of this land. Activities and Events In addition to providing many services for the Native American Peoples in Massachusetts, the Center also sponsors public workshops, seminars, and art exhibits to help educate the general public to Native American cultural, traditional, and spiritual ways of life. The Center holds an annual National Native American Heritage Day Pow-Wow and many other festivities. A pow-wow is a celebration of Native American peoples coming together to socialize, feast, and dance. It also provides an opportunity to dispel some of the stereotypes and myths about Native Americans. Most of the events are open to the public.
