[flickr_set id="72157621817818401"] The Lawrence Institute of Religion, an educational ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), serves students, faculty, and staff at the University of Kansas. Its participants are young families and college students from the University and other schools in the area. Services take place Sunday mornings and include prayer, songs, and members' testimonies. About sixty members attend, and services are open to people of any faith. The bishop of the church is Stephen Egbert.

Beliefs

Some beliefs of the church are that members should not follow leaders blindly but should be guided by prayer and their own personal beliefs. Members believe in doing all they can to get to heaven but understand that they will fail and are saved by Christ’s salvation. Also, revelations play an important role, since the LDS Church derives from God's revelation to Joseph Smith. Members value the Book of Mormon, an account of the revelations and prophecy given to Smith.
