A group of Muslims living in Greater Jackson identified a need for a national museum that would serve to educate the broader public about Islamic history and culture. In 2001, the International Museum of Muslim Cultures (IMMC) opened.
Today, the museum showcases various exhibits not only from the Middle East but also from Africa and Spain and includes a gift shop and bookstore. The museum closes on Friday afternoon in observance of Friday Jum'ah prayer.
