The Hindu Temple serves the religious and cultural needs of Jackson-area Hindus by providing a place for individual and congregational worship. The temple also serves as a gathering place during Indian holidays that may not necessarily be religious. The 3,500 square foot temple is the result of several years of work and cost four million dollars. At first, the Hindu Temple Society created hall-like temple in 1986, but later decided to convert the temple into a community hall and construct a new temple. Eight artisans from India were hired to come to Mississippi to complete the design work for the new temple, which was consecrated in 2010.

The Hindu Temple Society of Mississippi (HTSM) is located in Brandon, Mississippi, approximately eight miles from Jackson International Airport. Recently a new temple structure was completed on the east end of the HTSM property, showcasing architecture with intricate carvings to display many aspects of Sanatana Dharma.
