History

The Community of Joy is one the fastest growing churches in the entire nation, expanding from 200 members in 1978 to over 10,000 today. Started in Glendale in 1974, the church moved to its current 127 acre site in 1996. Noted for its innovative prayer and worship services, this "mega-church" has made a conscious effort to reach out to the "unchurched" with particular success.

Activities and Schedule

Services are held Saturdays at 5 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 8:15, 9:35 and 11 a.m. In addition, on Wednesday nights the church brings interested families together for a community meal and night of fellowship. Great emphasis is placed on education, and the community sponsors a Pre-School, and Sunday School classes as well as creative arts programs for all ages.

Description

The expansive church grounds are reminiscent of a shopping mall, with modern buildings laid out at the edge of a landscaped parking lot. Along with a very large sanctuary, the complex includes a pre-school, offices, classrooms, a cafe, a bookstore, a cemetery and recording studio.
