Into Practice, a biweekly e-communication distributed to active instructors during the academic year, highlights the pedagogical practices of individual faculty members from across schools and delivers timely, evidence-based teaching advice.

Teaching & Learning Consortium (TLC) network

HILT convenes a dynamic network of academic professionals from across the University, inclusive of all Schools as well as units like the libraries, museums, and HarvardX, with the aim of incubating and refining teaching and learning ideas and initiatives that cross school and disciplinary boundaries.

HILT collects examples of small-scale teaching innovations shared by Harvard faculty.

Funding for teaching and learning innovation

The 2017-2019 HILT Grants Program offers three mechanisms: Advance Grants (up to $25K), Spark Grants for Collaboration, Research, and Engagement (up to $15K), and Spark Grants for Students (up to $10K).

Expert scholar speakers

HILT invites guest experts to campus semesterly via the HILT Speaker Series to present and discuss specific topics in learning and teaching. These events are open to the Harvard community. Archived talk videos are available at the web page.

ABLConnect

ABLConnect is an easily searchable database that categorizes existing active learning efforts at Harvard and other higher education institutions. Supported in part by HILT, the database includes activity-based learning activities that have been carried out in departments across the university by both faculty and teaching fellows.

Talking about Teaching Series

The Talking about Teaching Series, organized by Harvard's Office of Faculty Development & Diversity and supported in part by HILT, is a University-wide seminar that explores pedagogical connections across disciplines and Schools. Designed by faculty for faculty, this seminar series showcases the work of Harvard master teachers through demonstrations of their pedagogy and discussions of its broader applications.

Harvard Art Museums engagement

HILT partnered with the Harvard Art Museums to create a video highlighting the renovated museum space and its possibilities for Harvard’s teaching and learning communities.

University-wide video infrastructure support

HILT provides funding toward a centralized Digital Video Services group within Harvard University Information Technology. This support enables the research and piloting of video technologies that break down barriers for University faculty and staff to capture, process, distribute and live stream classroom activities with better quality and a much improved user experience.
