Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) have been formed by Harvard staff and faculty over the past decades through grassroots channels in an effort for individuals from marginalized communities to connect. The goals of the collective ERGs include:

  • Educate, raise awareness, and share information about issues that impact historically marginalized populations,
  • Improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as part of the University's commitment to inclusive excellence, and
  • Offer a forum in which staff/community concerns can be made known to the University.

What is Inclusive Excellence?

A community that draws on the wide possible pool of talent to unify excellence and diversity. One that fully embraces individuals from varied backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, life experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and values.

Harvard's Five Core Values

The University's five core values provide a framework to organize how all community members can act to create a culture focused around inclusive excellence. If everyone can embrace these values, we will strengthen the foundation of inclusion needed for the pursuit of excellence at Harvard.

  1. Respect the rights, differences, and dignity of others
  2. Demonstrate honesty and integrity in all dealings
  3. Pursue excellence conscientiously in one's work
  4. Be accountable for actions and conduct in the community
  5. Cultivate bonds and bridges that enable all to grow with and learn from one another
