Mentoring and Language Acquisition in Brazil (MLAB)

MLAB is open to Harvard undergraduate and graduate students who would like to participate in a 5-month long virtual mentorship program - which includes virtual immersion activities in Brazil - designed to help high need Brazilian youth develop confidence, critical thinking, and English language skills.

Winternship Opportunities in Mexico City

This program, located in Mexico City is open to Harvard undergraduate and graduate students interested in an immersive Spanish language internship that will serve as pre-professional experience. DRCLAS partners with a number of organizations in Mexico City to provide internship opportunities in a wide variety of fields including computer science, public health, biomedical research, education, urban planning, design and resilience, journalism, human rights, architecture and art, and economic policy.

Puerto Rico Winter Institute

The PRWI is a multi-day seminar and excursion-based program in partnership with the College of Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras (UPR). Harvard students will join UPR students in Puerto Rico. The program is led by UPR Professor Pedro Reina Perez.

HSPH Collaborative Field Course in Brazil

Run in collaboration with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, a Brazilian host university and additional local partners, this January course combines lectures, discussions, and site visits (hospitals, health facilities, NGOs, and community-based programs) with group work on five specific topics.

This course is open to Harvard students as well as graduate students in Brazil.

HSPH Winter Field Course: Mexican Health Reform

Run in collaboration with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, this course introduces students to Mexico’s historic health reform, the Seguro Popular, which provided the financing of a comprehensive package of health services for 52 million Mexicans who previously lacked insurance. This field trip course will examine important challenges in implementation and evaluating the reform, such as shifting from a curative to a preventive health system and scaling up service delivery.

This course is open to HSPH students and is co-taught by Adjunct Associate Professor Martin Lajous and Takemi Research Professor Michael Reich.

2023-2024 Cancellation Policy for Winter Programs:

A fee of $250 will be applied for participant cancellation after November 22, 2023, on top of any program-related confirmation deposit. Additionally, students are responsible for refunding any costs associated with stipends they receive for the DRCLAS programs, in the event the student does not participate, for any reason.
